A routine police patrol took a dangerous turn in East Honiara today after a Police Response Team vehicle went up in flames near the national stadium, east of Honiara.

Supervising Assistant Commissioner for National Operations, Chief Superintendent Francis Ramoni said the officers were on patrol from Henderson to Rove Headquarters when the incident occurred.

Ramoni confirmed that all officers escaped safely.

“Very lucky, officers managed to apply safety protocols, stop the vehicle and jump out in time before further explosion.

“There were no major injuries or casualties during this incident,” Ramoni said.

He said Police are now examining the vehicle’s condition and any ammunition that may have been inside to determine the cause of the fire.

“The investigation will involve examining the vehicle’s condition and the ammunition that may have been inside the vehicle at the time,” he explained.

This approach ensures all aspects of the incident are properly addressed. Highlighted the police’s commitment to transparency and public trust.

The findings will be made public to maintain transparency and reinforce community trust in our Police Response Department officers.

The Police Response Department will also review its armed safety protocols and conduct internal interviews to prevent similar incidents in the future.
