Road construction works progressing along Mendana Avenue
The road construction works along the seaside section from Heritage Park to the Hot Bread roundabout at Point Cruz are progressing well, as part of ongoing upgrades along Mendana Avenue.

The Mendana Avenue upgrade begins at the Town Ground Roundabout and extends to the MID/HCC Roundabout.
Works at the Town Ground Roundabout have been substantially completed, with only traffic signage, road markings, and landscaping remaining.
Between the Heritage Park (HP) Roundabout and the SIPA intersection, works on the seaside carriageway are largely complete.

While traffic signs, road markings, parking areas, roadside features, and landscaping are still to be finalised, the roadway has been completed and was recently opened to two-way traffic to allow construction to proceed on the landside carriageway.
From the SIPA intersection to the Hot Bread Roundabout, works on the seaside carriageway are ongoing, including drainage, kerbing, and other roadside improvements.
Roadway construction and surfacing are expected to be completed within the next 7–10 days, weather permitting, after which works will shift to the landside carriageway.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Mr. Allan Lilia, acknowledged the steady progress and emphasised the importance of the project in improving urban road infrastructure.
“We are pleased with the progress of works along these important sections of the road network. These upgrades will not only improve traffic flow but also enhance safety for all road users, including pedestrians.
“The Ministry remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure that meets the needs of our growing population,” Mr. Lilia said.

Upon completion, the upgraded road sections are expected to significantly improve driving conditions, reduce travel time, and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians along this busy corridor.
The improvements will also support economic activity in the area, particularly around the port and central business district.
The Ministry acknowledges the patience and cooperation of the public, motorists, and nearby businesses during the construction period. Temporary traffic management measures remain in place to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
The public is urged to adhere to all signage and instructions while travelling through the work zones.
The upgrade works are being undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) under the Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP), a collaboration between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Solomon Islands Government.
