The former Premier of Central Islands province, Michael Salini said he respected the outcome of the motion of no confidence that ousted him as Premier this morning.

The motion moved by Member of the Provincial Assembly for Ward 2, Kenneth Sagupari  was passed after eight members voted for while five voted against.

Salini said he respected the outcome and accepted his removal from office.

“I respect the democratic process of our country and accept the defeat and removal from the office as Premier of Central Islands Province as of this morning.”

He thanked the people of Central Islands Province for their prayers, support, and encouragement over the last 12 months.

“Me and my government have been trying our best to develop our province, but due to politics, the numbers have shifted on to the non-executive side, so we have to give way and let the motion go through,” Salini said.

He assured his people that his side will work hard to contribute in any way they can for the betterment and development of the province.

Meanwhile nominations for the election of a new premier will open on Friday 6 June and will close on Thursday 12 June, 2025.

“I declare that nominations for the Premier’s post will open tomorrow (Friday) and close on Wednesday,” he said.
