Tropicana Motel is the first company to offer financial support towards the hosting of the 2016 Solomon Games.

The sports event is scheduled in Honiara between July 1st and 15th.

Tropicana Motel Marketing Officer Reverend Henry Teho says the company is committed to donate towards this prestigious sporting event.

It is a Government initiative aimed at engaging the youths in sports as an alternative to various anti social behaviours such as crimes.

Rev Teho says, if our youths are to turn away from unacceptable behaviours, they have to be provided with viable alternatives.

The Solomon Games is also an opportunity for various national sporting federations to identify hidden talents particularly from the provinces for future inclusion into national teams.

Meanwhile, 22 sports have indicated their interest in taking part in the tournament.

Some regional athletes particularly the Gold Medal Winners at the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby are expected to take part giving the event some international atmosphere.

Athletes from the French Terror ties of Tahiti and New Caledonia are also expected to participate as well as a Champion Discuss and Javelin thrower from Wallis and Fotuna.

The Solomon Games Council is working tirelessly in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Honiara City Council to set out the preparatory works needed.

Government Ministry and stake holders will be drawn in the coming weeks.
