Tulagi Women Unite in Celebration of International Rural Women’s Day
By Chris Alex
More than 400 women from across Tulagi’s five zones, along with community members, gathered to celebrate the International Rural Women’s Day, a first-of-its-kind event for Tulagi Ward.
The event, held in Tulagi, was graced by the Central Provincial Government Premier, Hon. Kenneth Sagupari.
Also present was Hon. Michael Salini, Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 4, whose support was instrumental in bringing the event to life.
Speaking to SIBC News, Women’s Development Officer for Central Province, Jacinta Sale, expressed her excitement and pride in seeing the event come to fruition.
“This is the first time we’ve hosted such an event in Tulagi, and it was truly special,” said Ms. Sale.
“The most important thing is that it brought together women from all five zones of Tulagi Ward to share, interact, and celebrate International Women’s Day in unity.”

Ms. Sale also extended her heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Salini for his unwavering support.
“Behind every success, there is strong support. I want to take this time to thank Hon. Salini for his great support toward this event. Without his timely assistance, this day wouldn’t have been the success we witnessed here in Tulagi,” she added.
“We look forward to working closely with him in the future.”
The success of the event has set a strong foundation for future celebrations, highlighting the growing recognition of rural women’s roles in Solomon Islands’ society and paving the way for continued empowerment and inclusion.
International Rural Women’s Day is observed annually on October 15 to honour the critical role and contribution of rural women, including Indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security, and eradicating rural poverty.
