Central Islands Province has a new Premier.

He is Hon. Patrick Vasuni, the Provincial Member for Tulagi Ward.

Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, John Bosomata told SIBC News his office has received three nominees, one of which was withdrawn before nominations were closed at 12.30 pm today.

Hon. Michael Arofa withdrew his candidacy today, leaving only two candidates, Patrick Vasuni and Selwyn Mapuli to contest the premier’s post.

He says, Hon. Vasuni secured the premier’s post polling nine votes while the former Premier Mr. Mapuli polled four votes.

“The official results are as follows; Hon. Patrick Vasuni has polled nine votes and the second candidate Hon. Selwyn Mapuli has polled four votes and this is clear that the new premier-elect is Hon. Patrick Vasuni the MPA for Tulagi Ward.”

SIBC News understands, the new Premier and his new executive have taken their oaths this afternoon.
