Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has said the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government is committed to improving sports in the country.

Mr Sogavare made the statement recently in his well wishes to the National Futsal Team Kurukuru, prior to their departure for Australia this week.

The team left the country for Australia in preparation for the upcoming 2016 OFC Futsal Championships which will be held in Fiji next month.

In a statement, Prime Minister Sogavare said an annual allocation of $10 million will be for the development of sporting facilities across the country as of next year.

He said the allocation should have started this year, but a comprehensive national sports infrastructure development policy must be developed in order to guide government efforts to develop sporting facilities in the country.

The Prime Minister adds, Solomon Islands’ bid to host the 2023 Pacific Games compels the government to fulfil its expressed commitment to develop sporting facilities.

He wishes the Kurukuru team well in their preparation for the 2016 OFC Futsal Championships in Fiji next month.

SIBC News understands, the team will prepare in Australia for two weeks before heading off to Fiji for the Championships.
