The National Education Board is currently conducting a review of the Education Act of 1978 with aims to reform the country’s education system.

The two day meeting, which started today, brings representatives from Education Authorities across the country.

Acting Chair of the Education Board, Warren Paia said, the Board’s review of the Act is nearly completed for submission to the Minister of Education, and later to Cabinet.

“Now we’ve come to almost finishing it, we come to the stage where together with the Ministry we are preparing a white paper for the Minister and for him to take to the Cabinet.”

Meanwhile, the Chair of the National Education Board says they are optimistic that a draft legislation to replace the 1978 Education Act will ready by the end of July this year.

Mr Paia said the new education act will have provisions to ensure quality education in Solomon Islands.
