The National Government should invest more in economic empowerment of youths, instead of police rearmament, says the President of the Solomon Islands National Council of Women.

Ella Kauhue told SIBC News, the National Council of Women also urges the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services to consult with women, youths and the wider community on this very important process.

She adds, instead of police rearmament, the Government should invest more in the economic empowerment of youths.

“Instead of us thinking about police rearmament now, let us look at economic empowerment for young people so that we can empower them to do things for themselves so that they are engaged and having no time to go out and caused anti-social behaviours commonly seen happening.”

SIBC News understands, the Committee on the Limited Rearmament Program will soon begin national consultations on the project.
