The Magistrate Court this morning sentenced a 27-year-old man to two and a half years imprisonment for armed robbery.

Boniface Oiafa pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery.

He was jointly charged with six other men for the offence.

The Court heard in April 14th last year, Mr Boniface with the other six accused went into the MJ shop in Honiara and threatened the owner.

Mr Boniaface was carrying a bush knife which he used to frighten the customers away from the shop.

They stole more than $28,500 from the shop.

Boniface initially denied the charge of armed robbery, but later admitted his guilt.

His change of plea and attitude of remorse for the offence were some of the mitigation factors taken into account during his sentence today.

It was also noted he was drunk at the time he committed the offence.

Principal Magistrate Jim Sueika sentenced him to two and a half years in prison, backdating from time he spent in custody.
