Opposition Leader Jeremiah Manele has called on the Prime Minister not to keep the people of this nation in suspense and to appoint his Minister of Finance and Treasury as soon as possible.

Contributing to the Resolution Motion moved by the Prime Minister in Parliament this morning, Mr. Manele said the Opposition and the country as a whole are concerned that the Finance and Treasury Ministry is yet to be filled.

“However Sir this side of the House and of course the country as a whole are concerned that a critical portfolio – that of the Minister of Finance and Treasury is yet to be filled, living the Prime Minister to be the Acting Finance Minister. While the Prime Minister has the experience and background in finance and is capable of handling both portfolios, there is a lot of speculation as to what is going on in the DCC Government.”

The Opposition Leader questions why have it taken too long for the Prime Minister to fill that portfolio.

Opposition Leader Manele also reiterated a call to the Prime Minister made by the Parliamentary Opposition early this week, to appoint minister who would have good connections and confidence from our development partners.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare assures the nation, appointment of Ministers to the last two portfolios – Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Police and Correctional Services will be made within days.
