In Sports, the Minister of the Home Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Maelanga has officially opened the 2016 Solomon Game tournament this afternoon in Honiara.
Speaking as guest of honour, the Deputy Prime Minister said, the Solomon Games is not just sporting but an event to scout for the best players to represent the country in regional and international sporting events.
“All the selectors in national federations will be scouting out for talented sportsmen and women to represent Solomon Islands in the international meets and this sixth Solomon Games is no exception. To athletes that will be selected for national teams may I extended to you my heart congratulations. Again, Solomon Games is also about winning and not just participating so may I congratulate the medal winners of these games and may you treasure your achievement as representatives of your provinces.”
Meanwhile, some soccer matches have started ahead of the official opening ceremony.
The tournament runs for two weeks.
