The theme for this meeting is “Sustainable Tuna Fisheries for our Economic Growth & Development”.

Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Hon. Nestor Giro delivered the official speech, reminding the delegates of their two-fold responsibilities as fisheries officers.

These are the need to manage tuna resources in the region sustainably into the future, and the need to optimize the economic return from the exploitations of tuna resources.

For today’s open sessions, the delegates will be discussing the PNAO Annual report for 2022, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification update, and Policy and Fisheries Management.

Fisheries delegates from the eight PNA Member countries and Tokelau are currently attending the meeting.
