Cabinet paper for Seif Ples formalization coming
By LACHLAN EDDIE
The Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Service (MPNSCS) is working to formalize the establishment of Seif Ples and will prepare a Cabinet paper to secure top-level government recognition.
This was announced by Permanent Secretary for MPNSCS , Karen Galokale, during her keynote address at the launch of the Seif Ples Database system at Rove, Honiara last week.
“I want to update all our important partners that the ministry is working to formalize the establishment of Seif Ples. We have begun with a comprehensive review and are developing a foundational concept and policy framework,” Ms. Galokale said.
“We have recognized that although Seif Ples is operational, we did not follow the formal government processes required for official recognition and establishment within our system.”
The Permanent Secretary outlined a two-phase approach to formalization.
“The ministry is developing the concept and policy framework, and we will engage with all partners to gather your valuable input. Following this consultation process, we will submit a Cabinet paper to achieve top-level formalization, ensuring Seif Ples is properly integrated within our government system.”
Ms. Galokale also emphasized the critical importance of this initiative for service continuity.
“This framework is essential for the survivors and victims who depend on this facility. They need assurance that these vital services will continue operating,” Galokale said.
MPNSCS has committed that this formalization initiative will strengthen the government’s coordinated response to gender-based violence.
