OUR PARTY CLARIFIES POSITION ON HON. KUMA’S RESIGNATION

Honiara, Monday 13 October 2025 –  President of OUR Party, Hon. Jimson Tanangada, has clarified the Party’s official position regarding the recent resignation of Hon. Harry Kuma, following media reporting that has taken earlier responses out of context.

Hon. Tanangada reaffirmed that OUR Party remains strong, united, and firmly guided by its founding principles of Ownership, Unity, and Responsibility. He rejected suggestions that the Party’s management or administration had weakened or that it had lost direction.

Hon. Tanangada says since its establishment in 2019, OUR Party has remained committed to good governance, political discipline, and national stability, the key foundations for sustainable development and progress.

He highlighted the Party’s proven record of leadership, having successfully completed a full parliamentary term from 2019 to 2024, and continuing to lead in the 12th Parliament under the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) coalition.

“Far from losing its way, OUR Party continues to advance its vision to empower Solomon Islanders through inclusive leadership, national unity, and responsible stewardship of the nation’s resources,” Hon. Tanangada said.

Addressing Hon. Kuma’s resignation, the President said the decision does not threaten OUR Party’s stability or cohesion. He emphasised that the Party is not defined by individuals but by its shared vision, values, and collective strength.

“Membership in OUR Party is both a privilege and a responsibility,” Hon. Tanangada stated. “We respect Hon. Kuma’s personal decision and wish him well in his political journey. However, OUR Party’s foundations remain solid, and our members continue to stand firm in their commitment to our principles and mission.”

Hon. Tanangada reiterated that OUR Party remains focused on delivering for the people through the GNUT coalition, working closely with its partners, the People’s First Party and the Kandere Party, to promote economic growth, improve service delivery, and strengthen national unity.

“Our focus is on preserving unity within OUR Party, upholding stability within the GNUT coalition, and working collectively to build a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous Solomon Islands,” Hon. Tanangada says.
