Consultation between landowners and three significant stakeholders in the USD$15 million Fiu Hydropower Project in Malaita Province is currently underway in Auki.

The consultation is between the National government, Solomon Power, and the Malaita Provincial Government, landowning groups mainly focus on presentations on the DCC Government policy on the project, importance of this project and the progress made so far towards its actual implementation.

A government statement says discussions also touch on ways to advance the project based on the achievements to date.

The Fiu Hydropower project is seen as an important national project for the Solomon Islands Government and Malaita Province and is reflected in the ruling Democratic Coalition for Change Government’s Policy document.

Of the sum, the Asian Development Bank provides USD$12 million while the National Government and Solomon Power contribute USD$1.5 million each.
