The Ministry of Finance and Treasury have held a successful briefing for journalists on the Public Financial Management Reform Roadmap, in Honiara this week.

During the briefing, Ministry officials and consultants discussed the purpose of the Mid-Year Budget Review in depth at an inaugural Media Workshop.

The Mid-Year Budget Review was released to Parliament in early September, when Parliament was considering the 2014 Supplementary Appropriation Bill.

Speaking to journalists, Deputy Accountant-General Merrilyn Kodoleke said, she was delighted with the broad coverage of the document in the media and in parliament.

Mrs Kodoleke also explained the Mid-Year Review provides an update on expenditure against budget to Parliament, and that this is an important way to demonstrate ongoing financial credibility in Government.

She said focus on transparency happens by increasing awareness of Government expenditure.

She adds, this is a critical way to use good reporting and the interest of people to ensure that the National Budget delivers for all.
