The 2018 national budget could be tabled in Parliament this month.

During the final Parliament meeting last year, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Treasury Manasseh Sogavare said the 2018 budget needs to be tabled quickly as the current Parliament has limited time to debate and pass it.

Mr Sogavare suggested that the budget should be brought to Parliament in January.

“Maybe we will look at the third week of January, maybe the first week, and it depends on the work of the Public Accounts Committee,” Mr Sogavare said. “If they move fast, we should be able to get this budget moving.”

He said the Government’s current priority is finalising the budget.
