FRC Chair calls for public submission of inquiry into the question of severing ROC

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Relations is again calling for submissions from the public as part of its inquiry into the question of severing of existing ties with the Republic of China (ROC) Taiwan.

FRC clarified in a statement yesterday, submissions are confidential until they are made public by the committee, which might occur during the inquiry or when the report is tabled in Parliament at the end of the inquiry.

While 30th September, 2019 is the closing date for written submissions, the statement said FRC is a Standing Selection Committee of Parliament and is mandated under Orders 71 B of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands.

It adds, pursuant to Orders 71 B (a) (g), the Committee on 26 August 2019 endorsed and inquiry to examine, observe and make recommendations of the government’s ongoing assessment to sever diplomatic ties with the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the conduct of its foreign policy in light of the same.
