GNUT Completes Cabinet Line-Up with Swearing-In of Two Ministers
Honiara, Solomon Islands – Tuesday, 07 May 2025 – The Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) has officially completed its Cabinet appointments following the swearing-in of two Members of Parliament at Government House in Honiara today.
Hon. Bradley Tovosia, MP for East Guadalcanal, was sworn in as Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources, while Hon. John Tuhaika Jnr, MP for Rennell Bellona, took his oath as Minister for Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs.
The ceremony was officiated by the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Reverend David Tiva Kapu.
Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele welcomed the appointments, noting that these additions now complete the GNUT Cabinet team and align with the government’s priorities.
“Hon. Tovosia brings years of experience in government and a deep understanding of the needs of our people. He is well-known within the government for his active, hands-on approach to projects. In GNUT, we value leadership that prioritizes collaboration and delivering tangible results for the people. While concerns regarding past mining issues persist, these are being addressed.”
” Hon. Tovosia was responsible for cancelling APID Mining License which was issued in 2014 and was reforming the mining sector by tabling the Mineral Resource Bill in Parliament when he resigned. He was also responsible for the current reform in the energy sector which has seen the reduction of electricity tariff. I am confident that Hon. Tovosia will bring renewed energy and strong leadership to the Fisheries sector,” Prime Minister Manele said.
On Hon. Tuhaika’s appointment, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of including a diversity of voices in government.
“Hon. Tuhaika’s fresh perspective and commitment to addressing cultural and social issues are invaluable to the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs. His appointment reflects GNUT’s ongoing efforts to ensure broad representation and leadership that serves the diverse needs of our people,” Prime Minister Manele added.
With these two appointments, GNUT now has a complete Cabinet to continue advancing its national development agenda.
