GUADALCANAL CELEBRATES 30 YEARS AS PROVINCE

Guadalcanal Province has today commemorated its 30th anniversary since attaining self governance as a province in 1984.

The celebrations were held at the Don Bosco Technical Institution at Henderson, with the theme ‘Peace and Unity for Prosperity’.

In his keynote address to mark the occasion today, Acting Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga congratulated the Guadalcanal Provincial Government and people on their 30th Anniversary as a Province.

Acting Prime Minister Maelanga also acknowledged Guadalcanal for allowing their resources.

“I would like to acknowledge the Guadalcanal Provincial Government, chiefs and elders, landowning tribes of Guadalcanal and the people of Guadalcanal for allowing their resources for the sake of our nation Solomon Islands. Guadalcanal Province has accommodated a lot of early investments in the country and continues to play host to some of the biggest investments in the country now, especially the Guadalcanal Palm Oil Plantations Limited and Gold Ridge Mining Limited”.

Meanwhile, the Acting Prime Minister says the Government pledges to face the social and economic development of Guadalcanal Province.

He said any Provincial Government needs to work as a team to be responsible, and practise good governance and transparency for the common good of the people
