HCC Elects new City Mayor

HCC Mayor-Elect, Eddie Siapu Congratulated by the Guadalcanal Premier Francis Sade

Councilor for Rove/Lengakiki Ward, Eddie Siapu has been elected as the new Mayor for the Honiara City Council this morning.

Mr. Siapu polled a total of 14 votes while his rival Reginald Ngati polled a total of 6 votes.

The full Council of 20 members cast their votes during the election.

Councilor for Kukum ward, Robert Oge who withdrew his candidacy for the Mayor’s position prior to the election was appointed as the Deputy Mayor.

Acting City Clerk, Fred Warereau declared the winners.

In his speech, Mayor-elect Eddie Siapu vows to provide effective leadership and to uphold the civic and democratic role of the Council.

Meanwhile, three Council Members, the Member of Parliament for Central Honiara Alfred Efona, the Member of Parliament for West Honiara Namson Tran, and the Premier for Guadalcanal province Francis Sade also sworn in today.
