The Henderson Eels F-C has thrashed Laugu United with seven unanswered goals in the opening match of the Telekom S-League, (TSL) this afternoon at the Lawson Tama stadium.

Both teams started their match with a high tempo but could not find the back of the net.

Gagame Feni and Coleman Makau could have gifted Laugu FC a much-needed lead with their two golden scoring opportunities.

However, Feni blasted his shot directly at Eels goalkeeper, Desmond Tutu after beating his opponent defenders with his sneaky skills.

Minutes later Feni beat Eels’ defenders again with his dazzling skills after receiving a well-crafted pass from his midfielder, Jeffery Bule.

Feni then setup his co-striking partner, Makau who again fired the ball straight at Tuti and denied Laugu FC the much-needed surge to take the lead.

Eels, on the other hand, bombarded Laugu’s goalkeeper with shots after shots but just missed the right target.

After few exchanges of shots, Joses Nawo capitalized on a lazy mistake from Laugu FC’s goalkeeper who passed the ball straight to him just outside the 18-yard box.

Without hesitation, Nawo floated the ball into Laugu’s net to take the lead in the 43rd minute of the first half.

And just before the half time whistle, the wonder kid, Raphael Lea’ i extended the Marahare coached side’s lead.

After the break, both teams returned to the pitch with renewed energy. However, it was work in the park for Eels who terrorized Laugu FC’s defenders.

Nawo extended their lead to 3-0 just a few minutes after the recess. Six minutes later he scored his hat-trick.

Lea’ I also added his name in the scoresheet again and further extended Eels lead to 5-0.

Tutizama Tanito also joined his striking partners in the 84th minute of the match with another goal to again an extended lead of 6-0 and two minutes later, Nawo added cream to the cake with the team’s 7th goal.

“I am impressed with the team’s performance, especially after a lot of media reports highlightingLaugu F-C as one of the title contenders in this season,’’ Eels’ Coach Marahare said.

“However, I am happy with our performance and this big win. It shows that we are also going to compete for the title this year,’’ he added.

Marahare also admitted, that his team’s level of fitness is a bonus to their win against Laugu FC.

“The difference in our game today is the level of fitness.’’

“I am sure and believe that we have the upper hand because of our early preparation for the OFC Championship League.’’

However, Marahare also pointed out, that he respected Laugu United and warn his players that once they meet again in the second round, the result will not be the same as in their first clash.

“I don’t expect the same scoreline will happen again if we meet again in the second round of the competition,’’ Marahare said.

The second match between Real Kakamora FC and Central Coast FC ended with a 2-2 draw.

The competition will continue on Sunday 16th of August 2020.

Southern United will take on MalaitaKingz at 2 pm while Honiara City and KOSSA will wrap up the weekend’s actions at 4 pm.
