The Government has appointed a first woman Deputy Police Commissioner for the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

She is Juanita Matanga.

Juanita Matanga was officially announced as Deputy Police Commissioner this morning.

Announcing the new post at a media conference today, Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast said Mrs Matanga’s new post is an excellent achievement for the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

“And I can announce here that Wanita Matanga has formally been promoted to Deputy Commissioner and I think that’s an excellent appointment for the RSIPF and I think all the appointments this morning are the result of officer’s very hard work in the contribution they’ve made so far so we look forward to work closely with them more and more in the future.”

Meanwhile, the new Deputy Commissioner Juanita Matanga says her new post indicates hard work to meet high expectations.

“This indicates that I will be doing a lot of work because as you all know that with such a responsibility also comes bigger expectations.”

Juanita Matanga had been the Acting Police Commissioner before Frank Prendergast took up the post as Police Commissioner early this year.
