Malaita Province has joined other provinces in supporting the National Government’s decision for a staged limited rearmament of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

This followed a presentation on the project by representatives from the Ministry of Police, the RSIPF and RAMSI to the Malaita Provincial government in Auki this week.

A joint media statement from RAMSI Public Affairs, RSIPF, and theMinistry of Police says there was strong support expressed following the presentation while a number of issues have been raised for the government’s consideration.

These includes; the types of weapons to be issued, compensation to gun owners on the arrival of RAMSI and others that needs the government to consider.

The statement said the teams noted the issues raised and are looking forward to conducting the same presentation to other provinces in the coming months.
