In Sports, the Solomon Islands National Futsal team, Kurukuru has taken a step closer to the Futsal World Cup after a three straight wins at the 2016 OFC Futsal Championship.

Kurukuru Captain Elliot Ragomo played a starring role for the Solomon Islands as they thrashed New Zealand 4-1 to move three points clear of the pack on Match Day 3 yesterday.

The match against New Zealand has lived up to the hype with a terse affair playing out before the packed stands at Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji.

The opener sent the predominantly Solomon Islands crowd into raptures as the captain faced down the fans as he celebrated what would prove a crucial advantage.

It was an opening of the floodgates somewhat much to the Kiwis despair as Ragomo put his second goal in the net with a flick over Elias Billeh.

The fourth and final goal was another stunning strike with the hardworking James Egeta setting Jeffery Bule up.

The Kurukuru Head Coach Juliano Schmeling expressed delight and relief, saying that the boys have performed well.

He adds it’s not over with two more games and nothing is decided yet.

The teams take a break today before returning to action tomorrow when Solomon Islands will play Vanuatu at 4.30pm local time.

Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has congratulated the Kurukuru team after their stunning 4-1 victory over New Zealand yesterday.

In a statement today, SIFF President William Lai congratulated the futsal team on behalf of his management.

Mr. Lai says he believes it is hard work that paid off for the Kurukuru boys.

The SIFF President urged the futsal team to put on all efforts to fulfill their dreams in their last two matches.

Kurukuru’s remaining matches will be against Vanuatu and the hosts, Fiji.
