Member of Parliament for West Makira Derrick Manuari’i has voiced support for the review of the membership of the Parliamentary Entitlements Commission.

The West Makira MP made the call during his contribution to the SineDie Motion debate on Wednesday.

He says a review on the membership is important to ensure the leadership integrity of Members of Parliament is protected at all times.

He adds the Parliamentary Entitlements Commission should be independent of any parliamentary influence.

“I join the Leader of Opposition and the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in the call that the membership of the PEC revisited so that the integrity of members of parliament is protected. PEC is supposed to be an independent body Sir and the inclusion of members of parliament and at times former members of parliament in its membership, only compromises its position of being an independent commission.”

SIBC News understands the Leader of Opposition Jeremiah Manele and the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee Rick Hou expressed similar calls in their contributions to the sine die motion.
