MID CONCLUDES KUKUM HIGHWAY PROJECT FORMALITIES

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) has reported the conclusion of land acquisition, relocation of public utilities such as water, electricity and telecommunication and securing the location for a plant yard ahead of the $213 million Kukum Highway Project.

The MID Ministry updates, preparatory works begin this month, prior to the physical construction phase.

An MID statement explains preparatory works include the procurement of machinery, material, and workforce, building project office among others.

It says the Kukum Highway project is a partnership between ‘Japan International Cooperation Agency’ as the granting agency for the Government of Japan and the Government of Solomon Islands through the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.

MID reports, the more than 200 million dollar project was signed in the presence of the MID Permanent Secretary, Mr. Henry Murray, undersecretary Technical Mr. Jimmy Nuake and the KITANO-WKK JV on 26 May.

The Ministry anticipates the planned construction period runs from this month to November 2018.
