The Solomon Islands National Basketball men’s squad yesterday defeated the Honiara select side in a first trial match at Multipurpose Hall by 93 to 54.

Secretary of the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation, Uriel Matanani told SIBC Sports the match is part of their preparation for the South Pacific Games.

He said a visiting basketball team from PNG will tour Honiara next month for a friendly match with the Solomon Islands National Basketball men’s team.

Mr Matanani adds, a final selection for the Solomon Islands basketball squad will be made after trials by the end of March, adding only 12 players will be selected for both the men’s team and women’s team to represent the country in the upcoming South Pacific Games.

Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands women’s basketball squad will take on the Honiara select side this Sunday.
