The National Risk Assessment (NRA) workshop recently undertaken in Honiara is crucial especially in terms of joining the global effort in combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism and proliferation activities.

Director of the Solomon Islands Financial Intelligence Unit (SIFIU), Jimmy Sendersley made the statement.

Director Sendersley said the NRA is number one priority under the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and the outcomes of the workshop would formulate a report to be used by stakeholders, particularly law enforcement agencies.

Stakeholders who attended the NRA workshop and were part of the full consultation process included government ministries, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), the financial sector and others from the private sector.

Solomon Islands will undergo its second Mutual Evaluation by the Asia Pacific Group on money laundering in 2018.
