OPPOSITION THANKED PM ON FIJI DONATION

The Parliamentary Opposition Group has thanked the Prime Minister for the $1.2 million donation towards the rehabilitation efforts in Fiji.

In a statement today, the Parliamentary Opposition acknowledged the Prime Minister for the donation done on behalf of the Government and people of Solomon Islands.

The Group says Fiji is currently going through very tough times and such donation will definitely assist in the current relief efforts.

It says Fiji is our Melanesian brother and it is only right that brothers help each other in difficult times.

Following the widespread disaster last month, the Solomon Islands Parliamentary Opposition Leader Honourable Jeremiah Manele had also expressed his sympathies to the Government and people of Fiji.

In a letter to Fiji Prime Minister Rt. Hon Frank Voreqe Bainimarama, Mr. Manele said the Solomon Islands Parliamentary Opposition Group share its deepest sympathies on the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the cyclone.

Mr. Manele says, it is his firm belief and hope that through the spirit of dedication, perseverance and support from international stakeholders; the Government and people of Fiji would be able to swiftly recover from the tragedy.
