PM accorded with GOH on arrival in Fiji

Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare MP, was accorded a guard of honor at his arrival lastnight- Thursday- at the Nadi International airport.

Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare is in Fiji for the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Retreat which starts today- Friday.

Sogavare was given an official briefing immediately after his arrival.

Today- Friday- the leaders begun the Special Leaders’ Retreat with a Prayer breakfast.

Solomon Islands expects the following from the Leaders’ Summit;
 Operationalizing the Suva Agreement.
 Status of Japan-ALPS Discharge and steps going forward.
 PIF Support for Solomon Islands LDC Graduation.

Pacific Leaders at the Pacific Islands Forum Special Retreat.

The Prime Minister also has a number of bilateral engagements lined up today.

His first bilateral meeting today was with his Fijian counterpart, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka where the two
leaders dialogued in relation to the Fiji-Solomon Islands Air Services Agreement, ASA, matters
relating to the planned Solomon Islands Chancery in Suva.

Maritime boundary too among other issues are of strategic interest to both nations.

Vanuatu and Saudi Arabia also seek to dialogue with Solomon Islands later this afternoon.

Overall, Pacific Unity is at the heart of today’s Special Leaders retreat.

The Forum’s Pacific Vision has been consistent “for a region of peace, harmony, security, social
inclusion and prosperity, so that all Pacific people can lead free, healthy, and productive lives.”

Solomon Islands joined membership of the Forum upon gaining its independence in 1978.
