Police arrests a father for incest

Police officers in Lata Temotu province have arrested a father who committed incest with his daughter.

The arrest was made after the 14-year old daughter reported the matter to her mother who refer it to the police.

Late police report the father committed incest to the daughter on four different occasions between 2022 and 2024.

The first incident occurred in 2022 when the victim was eleven years old. No-one knew and had any suspicion of the crime being committed until the fourth incident.

The incident only came to light after the victim left her home and sought shelter at her relatives home.

The young victim revealed what happen after her mother persistently questioned her as to why she left their home, during the same week the victim’s younger sister also informed their mother that she was also a victim.

Temotu Provincial Police Commander James Toaki said it is unfortunate and concerning to see the rise of such horrific incidents when homes and parents should be the safest place and people for kids.

PPC Toaki calls on victims and witnesses of similar incidents to come forward and let the police deal with the crime perpetrators.
