Police probe death of 17-year-old girl in South Guadalcanal

Officers in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the death of a 17-year-old girl whose body was found last week in Avuavu on South Guadalcanal’s Weathercoast.
The girl allegedly went missing on November 14 after attending class at Bubutasi Primary School in Avuavu. Her parents searched for her until November 17 when her body was found in the Churuna area inland of Avuavu Lake.
Officers from the Guadalcanal Criminal Investigation Division, a forensic team and a pathologist traveled to Avuavu to carry out further investigations into the report.
Guadalcanal Provincial Police Commander Nixon Manetoga said police will wait for a medical report on the deceased before they comment on the cause of death.
Mr Manetoga called on people living around the Avuavu area to provide police with information that could aid their investigation into the girl’s death.
According to police, no suspect has been identified at this stage.
