Preparatory work on land and other development-related issues is currently underway in Suafa Bay, North Malaita.

General Secretary of the Suafa Bay Harivava Development Governing Council Henry Tabusu confirmed this to SIBC News in an interview today.

Mr Tabusu says the work on land, tribal and other related issues is in preparation for the signing of a MOU between the National Government and the Malaita provincial government.

“On a participatory approach in our ground work we have set the following: awareness and educating people as well as the selection of tribal leaders and people to come together, tribal setting, identification of individual tribal groups and customary landowners who own land within the targeted land. We are also working on customary land boundaries demarcation.”

Mr Tabusu also said land pegs are being put up to mark land boundaries and ‘tabu’ areas.

“We also put up pegs to the customary land boundaries identified as well as conserve tabu sites and site clearance.”
