Prime Minister Meets with Auditor General and KPMG on 2023 Pacific Games Audit
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Monday 8 December 2025 – Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele met in Honiara on Friday, 5 December 2025, with the Auditor General David Dennis to review progress on the 2023 Pacific Games audit report.
Deputy Auditor General Vincent Misi and National Hosting Authority (NHA) Chairman Sir Jimmie Rodgers were also in attendance, while KPMG Fiji officials Sharvek Naidu and Anare Manulevu joined via Zoom to provide updates on their work.
The Auditor General and KPMG team briefed the Prime Minister on the audit covering 2019 to 2023. KPMG reported that the 2020–2021 audit work is complete, with a small number of outstanding queries being finalized. Work on audit opinions is underway, while auditing will next focus on the years 2022–2023. The team also highlighted that delays in receiving information contributed to the extended timeline.
Sir Jimmie Rodgers provided updates on the NHA’s ongoing support for the audit process. He highlighted that the lessons learned from the delivery of the 2023 Pacific Games will strengthen governance and planning for future national events. Both the Auditor General and Sir Jimmie Rodgers emphasised their ongoing collaboration with the Prime Minister to ensure full transparency and accountability in both financial and Special Audits.
Prime Minister Manele noted that the audit is of strong public interest and closely followed by Members of Parliament. As the minister responsible, he welcomed the progress made and said the lessons learned from the Games and their delivery are important for government planning and future national events.
“The 2023 Pacific Games was a success and one of the best in the region,” Prime Minister Manele said. “But the way we delivered the Games is equally important. The lessons learned from this event will help us improve how we plan and implement major projects in the future.”
Prime Minister Manele said he is encouraged by the progress so far and looks forward to seeing further progress over the next six months.
Auditor General David Dennis acknowledged Prime Minister Manele’s continued support to the audits into the 2023 Pacific Games.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank the Hon. Prime Minister Manele for recognising the importance of analysing how the Games were run for the purpose of improved and successful delivery for similar projects in the future. We look forward to working together to resolve outstanding expenditure and procurement queries so that these audits are completed,” said Auditor General Dennis.
The Government remains committed to supporting the audit process, including the next phase covering 2022–2023, and ensuring that the final report is made available to Parliament and the public.
KPMG Fiji is a professional audit‑and‑assurance firm operating throughout Fiji and the Pacific region.
They have been officially contracted by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in Solomon Islands in the past to audit major public sector and state owned enterprises, which establishes precedent for their role in auditing national events and entities.
For the 2023 Pacific Games, KPMG Fiji, together with OAG are responsible for auditing the financial statements and procurement processes of the NHA, covering the period 2019 through to 2023.
