To local sports, President of the Solomon Islands Football Association (SIFF) Willie Lai says his executive will focus more on developing football in Solomon Islands rather than involving in the politics that is happening in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Mr Lai told journalists this afternoon upon his arrival at the Honiara International Airport.

The SIFF President has led a three-man team to represent Solomon Islands in  the FIFA meeting held in  Zurich which then later saw the re-election of  Sepp Blatter as President of FIFA – a post he held for about 17 years.

However last night the re-elected FIFA President has resigned for unknown reasons.

But SIFF President Mr Lai says with the scandal happening at FIFA, Solomon Islands needs to focus on developing the sport.

“There are problems everywhere, you know, even in FIFA, but I think what we need to do now is we should concentrate on how we are doing in the Solomon Islands. That’s the most important thing now. My executive will spend more time to develop the national game in the Solomon Islands and leave the game politics, so I think it’s time to settle down and do our best for football.”
