A seminar to assist the Government search for the best election system in the country has started in Honiara.

A proposal sighted by SIBC News says, it is the overall intention of the DCC Government that a new electoral Act is in place before the 2018 general election.

It says, to achieve this policy, the government intends to complete the drafting of the new Electoral Bill by 2016.

The seminar is integral to the process of drafting the new Electoral Bill that will embrace the new system of election.

The current government recognises the overwhelming recommendations of the people of Solomon Islands based on the nationwide consultation conducted between 2011 to 2012 that a new electoral system be developed – one that will guarantee that a winner shall only be declared by wining 50 percent plus one votes.

In embracing this recommendation, the government has prioritised the “Design a more efficient and effective election system” as one of its top priorities under its good governance policy goals.

The seminar runs through to Thursday this week.
