Sirubai Voko Tribe Association Celebrates Four Major Milestones

The Sirubai Voko Tribe Association (SVTA) marked four significant achievements yesterday during a ceremony held at Pusiju Village in South East Vella La Vella, Western Province.

The event celebrated the following milestones:

  • The launching of the WWF Pacific Solomon Islands Sea Grapes Management & Enforcement Plan.
  • The launching of the Community-led Adaptation Pathways for the Solomon Islands (CAPSI) document.
  • The launching of the Poana Women’s Savings Club.
  • and the 20th anniversary of SVTA’s establishment.

Guest of Honour, Nickson Gurusu, Planning Advisor/Specialist for the Western Provincial Government, commended the community for its achievements.

“How you work with partners and how you work with the provincial government is admirable. Sirubai Voko Community has shown us that all the activities you are doing demonstrate that we can support ourselves,” he said.

“So, I want to congratulate the community and your leaders for all the work that you do,” he added.

Meanwhile, WWF–Solomon Islands Gizo Field Office Coordinator, Salome Topo, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for funding projects that support SVTA.

“I thank DFAT for supporting our work with this community. The support is making a real difference in the lives of many people, and we are excited to see the positive outcomes,” she said.

The event was held under the theme “Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable Sea Grapes and Community Prosperity.”

During the ceremony, SVTA also donated a 15-horsepower outboard motor to the Poana Women’s Savings Club.
