The first windsurfer to represent the Solomon Islands in the 2023 Pacific Games has been hitting the waves in blustery conditions off DC Park.

25-year-old Pince Hoga only started intensive training with coach William Mertens when the boards arrived a few weeks ago.

“It’s very much in its early stages,” William said.

“With Pince, from the first day he picked up the board, he’s been surfing along—even today when it’s very windy,” he said.

“He’s a real talent, a real find. Wait and see him in a couple of years’ time.”

Pince is competing against very experienced windsurfers from New Caledonia and Australia.

“It’s good; I love it,” Pince said.

“I’m learning a lot. I’m very proud to be part of the team,” he added.
