The Ninth Solomon Islands Parliament has officially dissolved at 12am early this morning.

Prior to its dissolution members were contributing on the sine die motion moved by caretaker Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.

Yesterday Speaker of the Ninth Parliament Sir Allan Kemakeza hosted a farewell dinner in Honiara for all members of parliament along with their spouses, parliament staff and other invited guests, during which he encouraged the MPs to have a go at the upcoming general elections.

Delivering his remarks at the dinner last night, Sir Allan re-echoed sentiments made by Members of Parliament for Northwest New Georgia, Rendova Tetepare and Northeast Choiseul; that MPs should have a go at the upcoming elections.

“I would like to remind others that what the Member of Parliament for Northwest New Georgia, Rendova Tetepare and also the Member of Parliament for East Choiseul said in Parliament during the sine die motion is most important for all of us; that is go and have a try, especially the 50 members who will return to their respective constituencies for this election.”
