Solomons wins gold, silver in 10000m at Pacific Mini Games

Long-distance star Sharon Firisua scooped a gold medal for Solomon Islands in the 10,000 metre event this morning at the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

Ms Firisua’s time was 39:25:94.

Solomon Islander Dianah Matekali took silver in the race with a time of 40:34:80.

The medals bring Solomon Islands’ medal count to 14 — five gold, six silver and three bronze.

In other action at the mini games, the Solomon Islands men’s basketball team won their first game against American Samoa 12-10.

The team is up against Nauru in the next game at 3 p.m. today.
