“Waste management is a good indicator of how a society is functioning” says the Permanent Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology.

Dr Melchior Mataki made the statement yesterday during the official handover of the Ranandi Landfill Administration and Training Centre.

The Permanent Secretary said the issue of waste management is an indicator of society.

“It’s one of the best indicators of whether a society is functioning well or not. It’s how you treat or you manage your waste. If you are able to look into it deeply it will describe how we value our country, how we do things, how do we care about how we live within the environment that we have. Waste management is a good indicator of how our society is functioning.”

The building was funded under Japan’s Grassroots and Human Security Projects Scheme and stands at the front of the landfill area.
