By Alfred Pagepitu
The Western Provincial Government has announced that the upgrade of roads in Gizo is a top priority for the provincial government.
Delivering his keynote address during the 46th Solomon Islands Independence Anniversary celebrations in Gizo, Premier Billy Veo said the provincial capital of Western Province has long struggled with lack of proper roads.
He said they have submitted proposals to seek assistance for the upgrades.
“I wish to also mention that in accordance with its work plan, the Provincial Government has made project proposals and submissions to key donor partners for the upgrading of the Gizo roads,” Premier Veo stated.
He adds, these infrastructure developments includes the construction of a Provincial Chamber which the provincial government is yet to have.
Premier Veo stated that the infrastructures are important initiatives that will not only improve connectivity to markets and ports, but also open up new business and economic opportunities for the Western Province.
“These infrastructures are important initiatives that will not only link communities to market outlets and ports, but also open up areas for influencing more business and opportunities beneficial to Western Province and the National economy,” he said.
The upgrade of Gizo’s roads is seen as a crucial step in reviving the province’s revenue and driving economic growth in the province.
