Western Province Day celebrated- “Embrace the past, Unite the present and Rewrite the future”.
The “Western Province Second Appointed Day,” now known as “Western Province Day,” is being celebrated by residents of the Western Province based in Honiara.
With the theme “Embrace the past, unite the present and rewrite the future”, the four day event commenced today with a parade from the SMI grounds to the old FOPA village at Panatina, where an official program took place.
During the event, High Court Judge Ronald Talasasa addressed the people, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect.
He highlighted the concerning increase in sexual offenses within the provinces, noting that such cases has the highest number of prosecutions in Western Province courts.
Justice Talasasa reiterated the importance of fostering respect in the communities.
Meanwhile, the guest speaker for the occasion, Honorable Rence Sore, shed light on the reason behind the name change from “Western Province Second Appointed Day” to “Western Province Day.”
He explained that the Western Provincial Assembly, guided by Section 26 of the Provincial Act 1997, resolved to simplify the name to “Western Province Day” starting from this year onward.
The event today was attended by over 200 individuals from the Western Province residing in Honiara.
