Technical and vocational education streams are expected to be fully integrated in the Education Act, following a review of the current Education Act of 1978.

The National Education Board reviewed the Act in Honiara this week.

Acting Board Chairman, Warren Paia said the Act, in its current form, covers all levels of Education from early childhood to tertiary education, while coverage for technical and vocational education is limited.

Mr Paia said the review is to ensure technical and vocational education is fully covered under Education Act.

“There is a greater emphasis in the technical area of vocational training and education, so that is a big part that was not covered by the 1978 Act, so in this new act it will make provisions for technical education, vocational education and so on so that all these levels of education can be properly regulated in such a way that we get the best practice, we get quality, our outcome, our products will be such that they can contribute more effectively to the development of our nation.”
