Care taker Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has been reassured that work towards the establishment of the new University of South Pacific, USP, Doma Campus is progressing well.

Mr Lilo was assured when he met with USP vice-chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra and Pro-Chancellor Ikbal Jannif in Honiara today.

Both USP leaders told the Prime Minister that the USP Council was confident that work would begin as soon as all necessary arrangements are in place.

In his response, Mr Lilo said he fully supports the project and would make sure the next Government continues to support and prioritise the USP Doma Campus.

He said, despite the establishment of the Doma Campus, Solomon Islands would continue to maintain its investment in other USP campuses regionally.

Mr Lilo made this statement in light of some recent reports that Solomon Islands would decrease its student investment in other USP campuses abroad when the Doma Campus kicks off.

The Prime Minister’s assurance was welcomed by both USP leaders.
