The Ministry of Rural Development has been allocated one of the largest amounts in this year’s budget.

In Parliament last week, Minister for Rural Development, also MP for Temotu-Vatud, Freda Tuki Soriacomua said her Ministry has been allocated $351 million, the biggest one in the budget.

Mrs Soriacomua says the rural economy needs to be active and the only way is for the Government to invest in the rural areas.

“Rural Development must no longer be overlooked. Government must truly focus on where the major of our people are, that is in the rural areas Mr Speaker. Sir the rural economy needs to be active, the only way is to invest in the rural areas.”

The Rural Development Minister also announced her Ministry will administer four development projects that will include an information and management system and the establishment of a rural development center.
