The Premier of Central Islands Province, Hon. Selwyn Mapuli has called on boat manufacturers in Honiara to ensure their products are seaworthy before selling them.

Premier Mapuli made the call after discovering boats distributed through the Constituency Development Funds fail to meet safety standards.

Mr Mapuli told SIBC News, boat manufacturers are not doing a proper job and this is putting lives at risk.

“…especially the ones ordered by members of parliament for their constituencies, it seems the manufacturers are not doing a fine job, maybe one or two coats on the boats then sell them off to members of parliament for their constituencies. I see this as unfair and they pose a greater risk for those who will be using these boats especially during rough seas and bad weather.”
