The Solomon Islands National Council of Women (SINCW) has strongly condemned a court decision to parole a church pastor who is being accused of rape.

The recent court decision saw the pastor released under strict bail conditions. He is accused of raping a fourteen-year-old girl in a village in East AreAre, Malaita Province.

President of the National Council of Women Ella Kauhue said the Pastor’s release is unacceptable.

Ms Kauhue said the Pastor should be behind bars waiting for his trial instead of being released on bail.

The National Council of Women President said the decision and process only demonstrated that the justice system failed to protect women and young girls against sexual violence and sexual abuse in Solomon Islands.

She said the National Council of Women requests all relevant authorities in the country to demonstrate fairness and justice to all concerned parties.
